Wallet Care

How to Care for a Leather Wallet: Cleaning, Conditioning & Storage

Quick answer: wipe with a dry cloth weekly, condition every 3-6 months with a leather balm, keep it away from direct heat, and let it air out overnight once a month. Avoid soaking it — a greased-water wipe is for deep cleaning only.

Weekly routine

  • Empty the wallet and wipe inside and out with a dry microfiber cloth.
  • Brush debris out of stitching and corners with a soft toothbrush.

Conditioning

Apply a small amount of leather conditioner to a cloth and buff in circles, focusing on crease lines. Conditioning too often can soften stitching; the sweet spot is every 3-6 months for full-grain leather.

What to avoid

  • Don’t soak leather in water — dry wet leather at room temperature, never with a hairdryer.
  • Don’t store in direct sunlight or a hot car.
  • Don’t overstuff — capacity is a design property (read the capacity guide).

Long-term storage

Store in a cotton dust bag or pillowcase with a small silica packet if you rotate wallets seasonally. Quality leather rewards routine care with a rich patina over years.
