Quick answer: a slim wallet holds 4-6 cards, a bifold holds 8-12, and a trifold holds 12-16. Carry more than 10 cards daily and you should split into a card holder + cash clip, or your wallet (and back pocket) will wear out.
Capacity by wallet type
| Wallet type | Comfortable capacity | Max |
|---|---|---|
| Card holder | 4-6 | 8 |
| Slim / minimalist | 4-8 | 10 |
| Bifold | 8-12 | 14 |
| Trifold | 12-16 | 20 |
Why overstuffing breaks wallets
Every card adds pressure on stitching and hinges. Overstuffed bifolds split at the fold; minimalist wallets stretch out of shape. Capacity is a design decision manufacturers engineer around — which is why our production designs specify capacity per model.
Practical rule
Count your daily cards. If you regularly carry a transit pass, two IDs, three payment cards and loyalty cards, you are at ~8 — choose a bifold or slim design, not a 4-slot card holder.
